I would give negative stars if I could

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am an optometrist and I hate this company. They are one of the most incompetent and frustrating company I have dealt with as a provider.

They lie, they say things to make you go away. They have no intentions of paying out claims. I filed a medically necessary claim for my patient and in 2.5 months, Spectera makes the same excuse, "it'll take 30 days" which is crap because it's been 70 days and they still cannot give me a reason for their denial of the claim. I wasted so much of my time trying to get this claim through.

I gave up.

They should just tell Doctors the truth, that they won't pay the claims instead of wasting the doctor's time. Please if you can tell your employers not to buy this insurance for their employees, this would save a lot of people a lot of headaches and put this company out of business.

After paying a premium for over a year, I went to the eye doctor-only to find out they would not cover my contact lens exam in my right eye due to astigmatism. When I went to order contacts, they would cover neither eye because of the astigmatism in my right eye and multifocal lens needed for my left eye. They cover neither. I honestly do not know how it is even legal. Seriously a scam.

Worst vision plan available. They have no clue what they are doing and it would be better if they sub contracted the healthcare vision provider service to a competent company. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

This is the WORST company and product. A $450 frame and you still can't get Eyewear without out of pocket $I'm 78 I don't need a $450 (limit) eye frame but I do need better lenses based on my prescription. Your company services are Ugly, and who ask the companies what tier r they, glasses aren't medicine. You will fail sooner as people discover what u are about.Zip

Over 30 eye doctors in my city. No one accepts spectera. Doctors office receptionist actually laughs when they ask who my provider is.

If your Spectera plan has out of network benefits you can submit for reimbursement. Google Spectera out of network form, download, print, complete and mail in. (suggest sending certified & keep a copy for your records)

Deceptive billing practices

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I called and spoke to a representative about my vision benefits and to find a provider in Network. I have a very difficult prescription so I decided to take advantage of the $10 exam to make sure there were no problems.

My information was input it into their computer and I was told once all the discounts were applied I would owe $179 and change. Three months later I received a bill for an additional $170.50. I called to tell them I already paid for my glasses and they told me these were additional surcharges that were not collected.

I told him I was not told anything about a surcharge and they gave me a canned response that theres a sign at every register saying that the quote of benefits is a just a quote and theres no guarantee but if you ask me adding $170 surcharge after The fact and then blaming the provider for not charging it sounds like deceptive billing practices to me. I am appealing this claim.

I have uh dual complete spectra vision

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was provided the 2022 Quick Start Guide UH dual complete . On page it says VISION COVERAGE It says $0 copay: 1 routine eye exam every year.

$0 copay and $400 allowance toward eyewear every year. When I get eye exam and ready to order glasses they tell me the $400 Is for frames and plain lenses. I have to pay for the lenses that I need to see with Wal-Mart don't sell $400 frames. The most expensive frames they sell is $142.

The glasses I need to see with cost around $400. UH SPECTRA will only pay $169 on my no copay glasses......This is a bait and switch program they sold me on their $400 plan for no copay then switched it to $400 for frames after I enrolled.

SPECTERA DOES NOT PAY

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Spectera claims that they pay $200 every other year under their contract with United Healthcare Medicare Advantage Plan. In fact, all they do is play games.

I bought a pair of glasses from Glasses/USA, which is the actual in-house glasses manufacturing arm of Spectera.

I could not see through the glasses that they sent me, so I returned them, and I ordered a second pair. I could not see through them either, and returned them, as well. I did, however, receive an email confirming that my Spectera account had been credited with the full amount. However, rather than actually refund the costs of the glasses to Spectera (again, their in-house insurer) they claimed that I had paid for the glasses with a Gift Card that was magically worth the same price as the glasses WITH SHIPPING!!!

But they, of course, did not tell me this at the time, and as I still needed glasses, I gave up and went to Walmart, which is the ONLY entity in my very small state that will accept Spectera. They looked up my Spectera account, which apparently looked fine to them, and they sold me a pair of glasses. As I need Progressives, I had to pay one hundred twenty-something extra, which I did. So just imagine my surprise when I received a bill from Walmart for $363.00!!!

So, once again, I called Spectera and asked for a supervisor.

I explained the whole situation and was told that they would forward the information to their returns department and that I would hear from them shortly. I then received an email stating that my 2020 Spectera benefit was available to use.

In fact, since Spectera pays $200 every OTHER year, and they had never actually refunded anything to my insurance account, I HAVE NO 2020 SPECTERA BENEFIT!!!

SO, I called Medicare, and they told me that I have to file complaint with UHC, and if they won't do it, I need to call Medicare back and they will file a complaint against them for me.

I do hope that this is true. But in the meantime, Walmart has threatened to send the account to collections which will destroy my credit.

Worst service team ever

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The initial prompt asks for tax id & NPI #'s, so why did each (8) telephone operator ask me the same info & ask for the patients name & date of birth? to every person I was transferred to, I had to provide the same info... & this is the PLATINUM team that handles issues. One platinum team member(Gil) hung up on me & never returned our call. 1 1/2hrs on the phone wasted, with no soloution to the problem.

Poor customer service locating a claim.

No one knows what's going on even within their "system". They pass the buck from one department to another. No one knows representatives numbers to transfer to, can't locate records, can't read their own scanned images of receipts, can't trace their own fax numbers.....what a mess! No, I would not recommend Spectra

Complete rip off

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
BuyI bought the insurance in good faith that I would be covered for a vision test and glasses with progressive lenses. Allegedly Spectera would cover the cost. Turns out that's not the case I have been to Walmart and Costco and turns out that they only pay a tiny fraction of the cost and I'm not getting anything special. So I have completely wasted money on the insurance and it would have been cheaper to buy glasses at Costco at least without the insurance.

Agreed they have horribly deceptive quotes and then state you have no recourse because there are signs at every provider register stating they aren’t held accountable for misquotes. I think they mean outright lies and hidden fees.

I have has 3 sets of lenses from their lab. All have anti glare, and scratch protection. All have become extremely scratched in 3 months or less even with doing everything possible to keep them from getting scratched!!
